Key Locators

Even before TC came along we were always misplacing our keys, car keys, house keys, office keys.  For a few years we had a key hook on which we deposited all keys on entering the house... well that was the theory anyway, didn't stop me from piling into the house with a child, shopping, dog, etc and losing the keys in the chaos. 

Fast forward to TC who has had a thing for keys since she could sit up!  In the last few months we have lost our keys over and over because she likes to hold onto a set of keys and then will not release them from her gorgeous chubby little hands.  Lots of cajoling and distraction techniques later we vowed to hide them from her and make up her own set but no, only our actual keys will do.

After she became mobile she graduated to (mis)placing my set of door keys in my filing cabinet, in the bin, under my duvet and under the dog's bed, it was days before I finally located them after that one!  So when I found these nifty little key locators on Amazon I thought they were worth a try.

I now have them on my house, office and car keys (and stuck on the Sky controls!) and keep the spare keys (which she was also fantastic at relocating) in a box way out of reach with the control locator.  Now a quick press of the appropriate colour coded button finds my keys!     Brilliant!

Back from Bloggy Holiday

I've had a little bloggy holiday recently spending time with my toddler girl, enjoying the long awaited summer sunshine and making the most of our time together. 

She will be starting nursery a couple of days a week soon, I don't want her to go, we have so much fun together and the memories I am making and keeping tucked away are priceless to me, but I know it's the right thing to do for her.  She loves other children and I know she will enjoy it immensely and maybe they can persuade her to sit on the gorgeous pink loo seat I bought her instead of using it as a frisbee!

She has lots of lovely, naughty energy which needs new outlets, her not so new toddler prank  is to wait until I am printing out something important (usually for work) and then run off with the paper, highly amusing to her!  And her also not so new found temper tantrums are still making me snort with laughter, I try not to let her see me chuckling but she is so dramatic, I think she has a career in acting in her future! 

So time to say au revoir all too soon to the summer now that the August Bank Holiday is over, it's all been so unpredictable this year unless you count the predictability of the rain to fall.  I've picked nearly the last of the blackberries from the garden which we had with breakfast today, a sure sign that Autumn isn't that far away. 

Let the nursery visits begin, I have a list of my preferred places, those that come highly recommended, they all need registration fees and 6 weeks notice to leave so we'll be trying out some taster mornings, but knowing Miss TC she will love them all...


Raspberry Almond Yoghurt Cake

TOTAL Greek Yoghurt very kindly sent me a few of their products recently to try.  TC loved the split pots immediately and got stuck in with a spoon and later with her fingers!  She loved the novelty of the fruity bit that we mixed with the yoghurt swirling to make pink yoghurt!

The 0% split pot yoghurts come in lots of different flavours from honey to berry fruits and the classic plain yoghurt in 3 choices - 0%, 2% fat and full fat.

TOTAL Greek yoghurt is produced from cows' milk and has added live, active yoghurt cultures.  This helps create the signature mild taste.  The TOTAL process also means that 4 litres of fresh pasteurised cows’ milk go into each, single litre of  TOTAL Greek Yoghurt.  Their unique straining technique removes all of the watery whey leaving only thick, deliciously creamy yoghurt.

There are no added sugars (only naturally occurring milk sugar), sweeteners, thickeners or artificial additives. TOTAL is 100% natural and because it’s strained, it has more protein than other yoghurts too.

I made a simple yoghurt cake with raspberries and almonds, light, moist and tangy with a hint of lemon running through it, made with full fat TOTAL Greek Yoghurt.  I am not an advocate of low fat for young children and I need the calories to keep up with a lively toddler, but I have also made this cake using Total 0% Yoghurt and they are both equally delicious and no difference in taste.  Usually when I eat cake I feel like a lie down but this cake has lots of protein with the yoghurt and almonds that I had none of the usual slump after eating.

Ingredients *This recipe contains nuts*

50g butter, softened
150g natural golden caster sugar
2 large eggs
225g TOTAL Greek Yoghurt
80g ground almonds
zest of 1 lemon
150g self-raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt
Raspberries to decorate
7" round baking tin, bottom line with baking paper and oil


Heat your oven to 170C, 150C fan.

I used 3 bowls for this recipe, in the first bowl (large) cream together the butter and sugar for a few minutes, then add the eggs one at a time and beat until pale and thick.

In the second bowl mix the yoghurt, lemon zest and salt until combined.

In the third bowl sift together the self-raising flour and baking powder, then add the ground almonds and stir together until combined.

Add the yoghurt to the butter/sugar/egg mixture and gently stir together, then fold in the flour/ground almond mixture until combined.

Pour into the prepared baking tin and bake for 40 minutes or until a cocktail stick comes out clean.  After about 30 minutes cover the cake tin with foil to prevent overbrowning.  Cool on a wire rack, then cover in frosting and decorate with raspberries.

Take 3/4 cup of Total yoghurt, 1/4 cup of cream cheese and 2-3 tablespoons of icing sugar, whip together for a minute until firm, chill for an hour if you can before slathering over cake!
